The villages of Patchogue and Bellport are gearing up for a monthlong celebration of fall. If you seek crisp air, pumpkins and decorating, look no further:
SCARECROW CONTEST
Preregistered residents picked up supplies to create their own unique scarecrow to display on Main Street in Bellport Village at the annual Scarecrow Contest. About 40 scarecrows will be displayed from the second week in October through Halloween. People will have an opportunity to vote in local stores, with a pumpkin bucket, for which is their favorite. Voting will end on Oct. 27 and the winners will be announced during the Halloween parade on Oct. 28. There will be prizes for the winning scarecrows.
SENIOR FALL LUNCHEON
The Patchogue Recreation Department will also be hosting a senior fall luncheon on Sunday, Oct. 15 from noon to 3 p.m. Call 631-475-4302 to register.
FALL FEST
The Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce will host their 10th annual Fall Festival on Saturday, October 28. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Main Street. There will be face and pumpkin painting, a petting zoo and music, as well as a self-led costume parade down Main Street at 1 p.m.
The event will include the annual Chili & Chowder Contest between many of the local restaurants. This year, the chamber will be offering both contests concurrently and begin selling tickets for them before the festival online via the chamber’s website.
HAUNTED LIBRARY
The South Country Library will be hosting a Haunted Library on Friday, Oct. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. with a guided tour throughout the library redesigned with spooky fun. The event is meant for all ages and will include a green screen, photos, costume contest, ghost stories and more.
HALLOWEEN PARADE
The annual Halloween parade in Bellport Village will take place on Saturday, Oct. 28. All children and their four-legged family members are welcome to dress up and participate in the parade down Main Street.
The festivities will begin at 11:30 a.m., with participants lining up at the Bellport Fire Department. Be sure to stay to hear the winners of the scarecrow contest, with prizes being given out by local merchants. After the fire department’s noon whistle, the parade will be led by an antique fire truck, marching down Main Street and ending at the Village Gazebo.
The fun will continue with trick-or-treating in all the shop locations for candy and goodies.
The parade is held by the Bellport Chamber of Commerce with the help of the Bellport Fire Department. The scarecrow Contests is run by the Village of Bellport.
TRUNK-OR-TREATS
Caitlyn’s Vision and the Mastic Fire Department will be hosting a trunk-or-treat event on Oct. 22 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the parking lot of William Floyd High School. This is a great family-friendly event that is free of charge. They are also looking for community groups and businesses who would be willing to participate by decorating a car and handing out treats. The Village of Patchogue Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting their third annual trunk-or-treat on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 3-5 p.m. Participating cars will be able to win first, second, or third prizes for their decorations. To register call 631-475-4302. Children are asked to come in costume.
WALK-THROUGH ZOO
Adults and kids of all ages will be able to see and interact with various animals of all sizes. Families can also enjoy a holiday vendors’ market. Giveaways to the first 100 kids. The event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 11, rain date Nov. 12, at 380 Bay Avenue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
