Blue Point Brewing Co. announces line of hard iced teas

Tea is brewed, too, you know.

Blue Point Brewing Co., the Patchogue-based beer staple, is jumping into the hard tea market with Long Island Iced Teas (LIIT). Be warned: this is not a hard seltzer.

“In typical Blue Point fashion, while everyone is rushing to innovate within the seltzer space, we’ve been busy looking towards what’s next,” said Blue Point general manager Carrie Shafir. “Our hard-sparkling teas are for the consumer who wants a little more than what a hard seltzer is giving them, without sacrificing on the ‘better-for-you’ qualities.”

The tea is brewed with natural flavors and 100 percent real tea. While dubbed Long Island Iced Tea, it doesn’t really resemble the popular cocktail. LIIT is a low-calorie option for health-conscious drinkers (or tea lovers). The drink contains natural ingredients, five grams of sugar, 120 calories, and is naturally gluten-free. The hard-sparkling teas contain no spirits—their alcohol content comes from the natural fermentation of cane sugar. LIIT is brewed with completely decaffeinated teas and has 5 percent ABV.

THE FLAVORS

Lemon Black Tea is a modern rendition of a classic lemon iced tea. It balances citrus and earthy flavors with additional notes of honey and lemon wedges; Mango Green Tea, infused with a unique blend of white matcha, green, and oolong teas, has notes of honey, champagne, and mango slices; Raspberry Lime Hibiscus is a botanical infusion of 100 percent hibiscus leaves, and contains notes of berry and floral balanced with lime.

LIIT is currently available solely in 12-can variety packs, with all three flavors, on Long Island. Blue Point Brewing Co. plans to expand distribution to other northeastern states later this summer, and more markets in 2021. LIIT is scheduled to be a year-round product and officially hit shelves on June 29.
