Bayport-Blue Point girls varsity lacrosse is hoping to return to the Suffolk County championship game in 2024.
They have lived up to their high expectations as they’ve executed dominance in their spring campaign maintaining an overall record of 9-2 in Suffolk Division II.
The Phantoms opened the season with three consecutive wins. The first two were at home: a 4-1 win vs. AH Plantation on Thursday, March 21 then an 11-7 win as they played host to Shoreham Wading-River on Tuesday, May 26.
The following day, the Phantoms traveled to Nassau and lost a hard-fought bout 7-6 to the Garden City Trojans. On March 30, Bayport-Blue Point won a road game by a sliver at the Smithtown West Bulls in a pulsating 10-9 victory.
In early April, BBP dominated the Islip Buccaneers 12-3 in front of their home fans, then fell to their nearest geographical adversary losing by a slim margin 9-8 at the Sayville Golden Flashes.
In mid-April, the Phantoms dominated West Islip 7-3, downed Harborfields 11-6, and annihilated Kings Park 19-6 and Mount Sinai 14-6.
A big win came on April 20 at home against a Division II rival with playoff implications on the line, and the Phantoms answered the call delivering a 9-7 victory vs. the Westhampton Beach Hurricanes.
They played the Miller Place Panthers Tuesday and will host Comsewogue today at 4 p.m. and the final regular-season game will be Saturday at noon at the Bellport Clippers.
The first round of the Division II playoffs is on May 15.
