William Floyd Board of Education adopted its proposed budget for the 2025-26 school year, which includes a zero percent proposal or no tax increase during the April 22 meeting.
The district has held or decreased taxes for four of the past five years, including reductions of 4.86 percent and 17.88 percent in subsequent years, as well as a zero percent proposal twice, including this year.
Last year, there was an increase of less than one percent.
“We are pleased to be able to provide a zero percent increase for the 2025-26 school year in this year’s budget proposal,” said Kevin Coster, superintendent of schools, William Floyd School District. “The district continues to manage its finances responsibly to ensure topnotch opportunities for our students, while being fiscally responsible to our residents.”
Also on the ballot is a proposition to create a $5 million repair reserve for future repairs, as well as the election of three trustees, seats currently held by April Coppola, Lorraine Mentz and Luis J. Soto. All three are running unopposed.
The annual budget hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the William Floyd High School library. The budget vote and trustee election are scheduled for Tuesday, May 20, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the William Floyd High School east lobby.
