The Bellport Fire Department and South Country Ambulance, spearheaded by Bellport resident and veteran Glenn O’Connell, initiated a medical collection for Ukraine that resulted in two pickup trucks of items. “We collected burn gels, gauze, Q-Tips, hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol, and baby medications,” said Bellport Fire Department chief Jason Crane. “It was a team effort with South Country Ambulance and us advertising for items, and we did the collection at the Bellport Fire Department headquarters. But Glenn approached me about it first.” The medical items were driven to Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Church in West Islip on Saturday.
