Surf Fest postponed

The Blue Vagabond Surf Festival was postponed due to wind and weather concerns. The festival was originally scheduled to take place at Ho-Hum Beach on Sunday, Sept. 12, but will now take place on Sunday, Sept. 19. The surfing event is reliant on favorable weather conditions, which were monitored up until the last minute by Andy Gordon and Thad O’Neil, the event’s organizers.

For last-minute entrants, the postponement could be a good thing.

“We opened the signup again so people can still sign up,” said Gordon.

The Blue Vagabond Surf Festival doesn’t follow regular surf contest rules.

“This is not a traditional surf contest, so there are no single winners, rather a series of expression sessions with four awards to be granted in each session,” according to the contest rules and regulations on the festival’s website.

The event’s opening ceremonies were held as scheduled, on Saturday at the H.O.G. (Hamlet Organic Garden) Farm in Brookhaven, and included a live D.J., prizes, oysters and fun.
