County’s Frank Guarino appointed to FASNY Board of Directors

Frank Guarino, of Suffolk, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Firemen's Association of the State of New York (FASNY). Guarino was appointed to replace now FASNY second vice president Eugene Perry of Shirley. Guarino anticipates running for a subsequent five-year term in August. Simultaneously, Guarino continues to serve as president of the Volunteer Fire Police Association, approaching his fourth consecutive year of caring for over 1,900 volunteers.

Guarino has been a 20-year member of the Hagerman Fire Department, joining in 1987. Within the department he has held the positions of captain, first lieutenant, second lieutenant, chief, and commissioner. In 1996, he was named Fireman of the Year by the Hagerman Fire Department and has received the Chief’s Award four times.

When asked about his goals as a new member of the FASNY board of directors, Guarino said, “As a director, I look forward to working with the rest of the board members on whatever task I am given, but my goals at this time are to make sure that our volunteer firefighters have the proper training and that every firefighter is safe and is able to return home to their family.”

Guarino is also a member of the Town of Brookhaven Fire Police Association, the Suffolk County Fireman’s Association, the Fire Service Council, and the New York State Chief’s Association. He is an active leader is FASNY’s training programs including teaching courses on vehicle fires, ice rescue, arson recognition, fire police counter terrorism, emergency vehicle operation, and more.

Guarino bravely served in the United States’ Army from 1970-1973. Outside of his work at FASNY, Guarino lives with his wife and enjoys cheering on the Baltimore Ravens. He also adores caring for his two young grandchildren, Vinnie, 9, and Milania, 2.
