After a compelling 33-6 victory in the Long Island championship, the Sayville Golden Flashes traveled upstate to play Webster Schroeder for the New York State Class B semifinal, at Cortland High School.
Late in the first half, the Webster Schroeder Warriors scored the first two touchdowns of the game, the first with 1:47 remaining in the first half and the second TD with 1:11 to go till intermission. It was 14-0, Webster Schroeder, at the end of the first half.
With under four minutes to go in the game, Webster Schroeder intercepted a Sayville pass. With 2:53 remaining in regulation, Ava Vadyak found her way into the end zone after she intercepted a pass for a pick-6 to get her team on the board, and subsequent to the successful extra point attempt, it was 14-7.
The late gasp was the momentum Sayville had been looking for all game, but they were unable to complete the comeback as time elapsed in the second half. The Warriors held on to defeat the Golden Flashes in the New York State semifinal.
The final score was Webster Schroeder 14, Sayville 7. At the conclusion of the game, Ava Vadyak of Sayville and Mckenzie Browne of Webster Schroeder were esteemed the Sportsmanship Award of the contest.
