According to Superintendent of Schools Dr. Donna Jones the Patchogue-Medford School District received word late yesterday afternoon of a positive case involving a staff member who may have been exposed to a number of students and staff.

“Since we were notified of the positive case late on a Sunday afternoon, there was not sufficient time to conduct tracing protocols,” said Jones. “Out of an abundance of caution, we moved to full remote today so that we could appropriately quarantine those with exposure.”

Since then, she assured, the district has conducted tracing and quarantined 29 students and approximately five additional staff members. The High School plans to reopen tomorrow.

“The District continues to experience challenges no different from other districts with managing positive cases and the associated tracing protocols as the number of cases rise at concerning rates in Suffolk County,” she said. “We are taking every necessary measure to minimize infection spread and disruptions to the daily learning plan for students."
