Over $80k raised by Chamber for fire victims

Following the devastating fire in downtown Main Street in Sayville on October 25 that gutted the three businesses housed in the divided structure, including the former Café Joelle site, Paper Doll Vintage Boutique, and Boris’s Barbershop, the community efforts began before the fires were even extinguished with leaders on site alongside the fire departments.

The main fundraiser has been held by the Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce which has raised over $80,000 of their $150,000 goal.

“Eileen Tyznar [president emerita of the Sayville Chamber] has been an absolute angel and hero,” said Dominque Maciejka, owner of Paper Doll Vintage Boutique who was across Main Street as the flames enveloped her life’s work of one-of-a-king apparel and accessories.

Other Main Street businesses have also offered donations:

Ivory and Main, a plus-size bridal boutique, offered to donate 100 percent of sales of discounted styles sold from Oct. 28 through Nov. 1 to the fire relief fund.

Everly & Co., a women’s fashion boutique, donated 20 percent of sales to the fire relief fund from Nov. 1 to Nov. 3.

Blackbirds’ Grille, offered 10 percent of sales to donate to the South Shore Together Foundation on Monday, Nov. 4.

The Wayward hosted the official Sayville Chamber’s fundraiser on Wednesday, Nov. 6 with live music and a $40 entry fee.

Café Joelle, now located on Foster Avenue, will hold a fundraiser on Thursday, Nov. 7 for $100 entry.

Tyznar has promised the Main Street Fire Relief Fund will give immediate access to the funds for all affected businesses.
