Hometown Heroes Project

As you drive along Main Street in Center Moriches, please take a moment to notice the Hometown Heroes Banners proudly displayed on our lamp posts.  Thank you to three eighth-grade students from Center Moriches Middle School, Addison Raupp, Kristin Luna and Adrianna Loesch.  As part of their eighth-grade project, they decided to honor our vets in a special way.  They teamed up with the Hometown Heroes Program to recognize the service and sacrifice made by our servicemen and women.  They have raised over $4000 from residents and businesses to help sponsor the banners.  The Chamber of Commerce of the Moriches is proud to help support this project, as well as the Boy Scout Troop 23.  Troop 23 volunteered to put up the banners and work with the Chamber of Commerce to maintain them. “The chamber is thrilled with how our Main Street looks celebrating our heroes!” said Jackie Osborne.  The chamber would like to thank Rich Raupp, Addison’s father, for his exceptional direction and unwavering commitment in steering this project to its successful completion.  A huge thank you to Addison, Kristin, and Adrianna for initiating the Hometown Heroes project, a heartfelt tribute honoring our veterans.  Your dedication to recognizing and celebrating their sacrifices is truly commendable.

Women of Distinction

The chamber is very proud of two of our distinguished board members who have been recognized as Women of Distinction.  Miriam Gillies was recognized as a Woman of Distinction by the Local New York State Assembly, as well as from the New York State Office of the Aging’s Older New Yorkers Day for her work with the American Cancer Society and Hospice Care.  Gerry Sapanaro was recognized as a Woman of Distinction from the 3rd Legislative District of Suffolk County for her contributions to her community as past president of the chamber and as current treasurer, as well as being a member of the Rotary Club.  “Gillies’s and Sapanaro’s contributions to the community are a testament to their passion, dedication, and leadership,” said Jackie Osborne, president of the chamber. “Their work as board members and volunteers has not only addressed immediate needs, but also laid the foundation for long-term positive change. By empowering others and fostering a culture of service, they have inspired countless individuals to take an active role in their community.” The Women of Distinction Award serves as a well-deserved recognition of Gillies’s and Sapanaro’s outstanding efforts. Thank you!
