Make your way to the Sidewalk Sale

The Bay Shore Retail Committee is having its annual Sidewalk Sale on May 10. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can take a walk down Main Street in Bay Shore and support your local businesses. If you’re still looking for a Mother’s Day gift or need some help deciding, make your way down to Main Street.

Some of the well-known businesses on Main Street include Origin of Era, Nalu, Willy Nilly and more. Some will set up a rack or table outside on the sidewalk to display what their business is all about. It gives local shops the opportunity to welcome and bring locals into their shop.

“From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., we are looking forward to showcasing Bay Shores premier boutiques, and bringing them to the forefront of Main St.,” Bay Shore Retail Committee leader Renee Goldfarb said. “Shops from the downtown area, including off Main, and surrounding area, will all gather on Main to show what they have to offer. Local, small, and embracing our community!”

Origin of Era is a boutique that features women-owned brands and sells a variety of clothing, jewelry and home goods. Nalu is a local surf shop that sells Bay Shore pride merch, along with surfboards and sunglasses. Willy Nilly is a shop that not only carries popular brands such as Vera Bradley, but also Long Island home accessories.

There will also be local mom-and-pop shops from nearby communities that have been invited to partake in the sale.

All are welcome to stop by and explore what Bay Shore’s local retailers have to offer.

Plant Swap

Nature lovers who are planning to stop by the Sidewalk Sale on May 10 can head to the bandshell from 10 a.m. to noon for a plant swap. The event is put together by the Bay Shore Beautification Society and Bay Shore Garden Club. It will be the first plant swap of the year and first that the society is hosting.

If it is successful, the organization hopes to continue to offer the swap in the spring and fall.

The plant swap is an event where individuals can bring a plant of their own to swap with someone else. It’s a great way for plant lovers to expand their plant collections while building a community with others who have the same passion.

“We thought this would be a fun event to pull in like-minded community members who love to garden,” the society said. “And for beginners to find a supportive community to help them create their first gardens!”

If you’re planning on swapping a plant, they should be split or placed in a container or box. They should also be labeled to distinguish what plant is being swapped and so that the person receiving the new plant knows how to properly care for it.

Additionally, the Bay Shore Beautification Society will be offering a lecture at the Bay Shore Brightwaters Library. The topic will be “Gardening with Ecology in Mind” and will be held on May 14 at 7 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
