On Sunday, Nov. 24, The American Ballet Studio in Bayport hosted their annual “Magic on Middle” event, which supports the American Dance Theatre of Long Island’s production of “The Nutcracker.” ADLI is a nonprofit ballet company for dancers ages five to 18.
From 4 to 4:30 p.m., kids could participate in a ballet workshop followed by caroling. At 5 and 6 p.m., attendees were invited to watch a “Nutcracker” excerpt performance.
A few vendors sold ornaments, bracelets, and more. On a large inflatable screen, previous “Nutcracker” performances were showcased, along with a QR code to purchase tickets for this year’s performances. Inside was a planetarium showcasing the winter sky and face painting.
Event organizers Lanora Truglio and Jennifer Kupstas shared why this event is important for the dance studio.
“Every year, we put on a ‘Nutcracker’ production, and it’s very expensive. You have to rent a theater, insurance, and costumes, so this helps fund that for the kids and in the dance community,” said Kupstas.
It was a special night for the dancers. Many of them are at the studio nearly every day for rehearsals and classes, so this event provided a wonderful opportunity for them to have some fun and connect with the community.
“It’s successful because it’s Bayport, and Bayport is such a small community-based town. I feel like it has become a holiday tradition for local families. So, it’s become woven into their holiday, which is nice,” Kupstas added.
“The Nutcracker” performances will take place on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 2 and 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 15, at 1 p.m., at the Van Nostrand Theatre at the Suffolk County Community College Michael J. Grant Campus in Brentwood.
Tickets can be purchased at adtli.org.
