The Suffolk County Republican party victory celebration was held at Stereo Garden in Patchogue.
The GOP had a number of big wins in local elections with many races won against non-campaigning opponents in the Democratic party.
Suffolk Republican chairman, Jesse Garcia, spoke early in the evening and said, “Across the nation, there’s a wave going, and you know where that wave started? Right here in Suffolk County!”
“We decided for a safer Suffolk, a more secure Suffolk, a more affordable Suffolk and after 20 years you elected, Ed Romaine,” said Garcia in his introduction to the current county executive’s speech.
“I stood here a year ago and through the hard work of everyone in this room and we elected the first Republican county executive in Suffolk in 20 years,” said Romaine.
Congressman Andrew Garbarino (2nd district) won with 56.26 percent of the vote (197,168 votes) against Democrat Rob Lubin who had 37.22 percent of the vote (130,430 votes)
“By sending Nick LaLota [congressman, 1st district] and myself back to Congress, we are going to put this country back on the right track!” said Garbarino.
“We have seen what has happened to our country over the last four years and we chose today that we aren’t going to take it anymore. We need to continue to fight and hopefully next year with Donald Trump as president and a Republican senate and a Republican house, we can close our border, lower our taxes, and we can get our country back…God bless you, God bless America!” said Garbarino.
State Senator Alexis Weik (8th District) won with 63.28 percent of the vote (115,584 votes) against Democratic challenger Francis Dolan who received 30.37 percent of the vote (55.474 votes).
“Thank you everyone, I’m so glad to see everyone here. We had a lot of seats on the line but the New York State Senate was strong this year. I thank everyone for all the hard work they’ve done. When we get back our seats, we take back New York,” said Weik.
Assemblyman Jarett Gandolfo won with 58.82 percent of the vote (41,496 votes) against Democratic challenger Garrett Petersen with 33.92 percent of the vote (23,926 votes).
“He’s synonymous with the south shore he is synonymous with getting things done he is synonymous with accomplishment,” said Garcia in introducing Gandolfo.
“I have to thank every volunteer for their hard work in each an every election cycle…Long Island is sick and tired of Kathy Hochul’s agenda and Suffolk County will lead the way,” said Gandolfo.
