In memory of the lives lost

Two thousand nine hundred and seventy-seven flags were placed at the top of the canal to honor the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001.

On Friday, Sept. 9, Boy Scout Troop 430 and the Village of Brightwaters came together to plant 2,977 flags at the top of the canal in the village. The number of flags represented each of the lives lost 21 years ago on Sept. 11. In addition to the flags, banners supporting police and firefighters were placed at the village’s Four Corners.
