This year was Helping Make U Happy’s eighth year of providing new backpacks and school supplies for children in need. According to founder Keith Caputo, not only does it make the students and their families happy, but it also makes the donors happy as well. This year they collected 66 backpacks to fill with school supplies for all 66 students in the families they fed all summer. The organization also plans to help some who are also in need of back-to-school clothing.
“Sometimes it really does take a village, and we are so thankful for all the support we get from local communities, especially when it’s time to collect school supplies for students referred to Helping Makes U Happy by school social workers in the Center Moriches and ESM school districts,” said Keith’s mother and co-founder, Cassy Caputo.
School supply donations are still coming in from local families, as the organization provides supplies throughout the year on an “as-needed” basis to area schools upon request.
