East Islip lacrosse falls to Garden City in LI Championship

East Islip boys varsity lacrosse had a fantastic spring season, winning the 2025 Suffolk County championship. Head coach Tom Zummo led his club to victory as they finished the regular season in first place in Suffolk Division II, with a 12-2 league record and a 13-3 overall record.
In the Class B county semifinals, East Islip beat Comsewogue on May 28 at home, 13-8, then took down their nearby geographical rival West Islip on Saturday, May 31, 15-10, in the Suffolk County Class B championship.
In the county championship, West Islip held a 6-5 edge in the first quarter. East Islip notched a goal in the second quarter and it was tied 6-6 at halftime. EI outscored their opponent seven goals to four in the third quarter, then shut out West Islip two goals to none in the fourth, and the final score was East Islip 15, West Islip 10.
For East Islip, Ethan Benardos scored five goals, Ryan Parker scored five, Jack Kalinowski notched three, and Connor McIntee tallied two. Goalkeeper Drew Walendowski made 16 saves for the county champs with a 61 percent save percentage.
For West Islip, Reilly Quinn tallied three goals, Michael Hazelton, Nicholas Henry, and William Schwarz notched two, and Chase Busking scored one.
Goaltender Brendan McMahon made 10 saves with a 40 percent save percentage.
On Wednesday, June 4, East Islip fell to Garden City in the Class B Long Island championship by a score of 15-11.
