Drive-through trunk-or-treat at Hagerman FD

Posted

The Angels of Long Island is hosting a drive-through trunk-or-treat at Hagerman Fire Department on Oakdale Avenue in East Patchogue, on Oct. 25 from 1-3 p.m.

“Cars are going to drive down Oakdale Avenue, go down the fire department track, and they stay in their cars,” said Debbie Loesch, founder of Angels of Long Island. “Based on how many kids they come with, we are going to put a trick-or-treat bag for each child that is with them in the trunk.”

Admission is free, and Angels of Long Island asks that anybody who attends provides a bag of cans/bottles for recycling purposes.

“That would help us because we turn that into cash,” she said, adding that Angels of Long Island has raised $16,000 through can/bottle returns. “We usually get around 300 to 400 cars from this type of event. If I get 300 to 400 bags of cans, that turns into lots of money.”

Holiday toys or gift cards are also graciously accepted.

“Whatever is in their trunk, we are going to remove from their trunk, then add trick-or-treat bags,” Loesch said.

About 30 sponsors are all signed up to set up their trunks. Additionally, the top 2 decorated trunks will receive a prize.

“My volunteers collected a massive amount of gift cards and gift certificates to local restaurants and stores. There will be judges who choose the best decorated car,” she said.

Afterwards, the fire department will set up a fire prevention safety unit for the children. Additionally, Carroll’s Kitchen will be providing bagged lunches.
