Scarecrows, pumpkins and costumes


The villages of Patchogue and Bellport are gearing up for a monthlong celebration of fall, starting with scarecrow-building contests this weekend. If you seek crisp air, pumpkins and decorating, look no further:


A senior fall luncheon will be held at 380 Bay Avenue in Patchogue on Oct. 15. $10 per person; call and register as space is limit: 631-475-4302.


The Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their Fall Fest on Main Street on Saturday, Oct. 16, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be face and pumpkin painting, a petting zoo and music, as well as a self-led costume parade down Main Street at 1 p.m.

The event, which was cancelled last year, will again feature its famous chili and chowder contest. About 20 entries are expected. Tickets will be on sale the day of the event for $20 per group. Chowder tasting will start at noon to 3 p.m. and chili from 3 to 5 p.m. Winners will be announced at a later date.

“It’s good old fall fun,” said chamber executive director David Kennedy. “We are really excited to bring it back this year.”


The Bellport Chamber of Commerce will be holding their annual Halloween parade down Main Street on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. with a costume parade followed by trick-or-treating and local shopping. The New Students will also be playing at noon.

Patchogue’s trick-or-treating on Main Street will be postponed a year, though trick-or-treaters are still welcome at open shops on Halloween.


Caitlyn’s Vision and Legis. Jim Mazzarella will be hosting a trunk-or-treat event on Oct. 23 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the parking lot of William Floyd High School.  This is a great family-friendly event that is free of charge.  They are also looking for community groups and businesses who would be willing to participate by decorating a car and handing out treats.  Those who are interested in participating can email

The Village of Patchogue Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting a trunk or treat on Saturday, Oct. 30 from 3-6 p.m. Participating cars will be able to win first, second or third prizes for their decorations. To register call 631-475-4302.

Children are asked to come in costume. There will be a costume contest with prizes for first and second place.

Fall Festival fundraiser,
Sunday, Oct. 25 

The Angels of Long Island will be presenting a free admission fundraiser from noon to 4 p.m. at the Hagerman Fire Department on Oakdale Avenue in East Patchogue. There will be food, music, games and a trunk-decorating contest.
