Suffolk County Police closed off River Avenue in Patchogue south of the train tracks near Division Street Tuesday afternoon after responding to a "mental illness crisis call" in the area, police at the scene said.

At 1:23 p.m., police received a call from an individual who expressed concern with the mental health status of a man located in a vehicle on River Avenue, according to Suffolk County Police Department Public Relations.

The owner of Kell's Kitchen, the deli located at 140 River Avenue, said she saw a helicopter circling the area and noticed a Suffolk County van driving southbound down River Avenue.

Police said the situation has since been resolved and the man in question is with the police.

River Avenue remained closed around 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

This is a developing story. It will be updated as more information becomes available.
