The board approved the 2022 Storm Water Report, which is filed every year with New York State. The report details information such as what drains are clean and what streets are being sweeped. The Storm Water Report can be viewed on the village website.

The board held a public hearing on Local Law 4-2022, which details parking for boat owners with permits. After the hearing, the board voted to adopt a change in language to the law. The new language states: “vehicles displaying current boat owner parking permit emblems may park on the designated side of each of the following streets between the designated signs between the hours of 6 a.m. and 2 a.m. of the following day while utilizing boats berthed in the village boat harbor. The streets affected are Corinthian Court, Lagoon Court, Linwood Court, Marine Court, Neptune Court, Windsor Place and East Shore Road from South Windsor Avenue to Concourse East, but only on the south side thereof.” During the public hearing, residents asked the board to enforce ticketing for individuals who tend to park illegally with no repercussions.

The board approved resolution 2-2022 authorizing the village clerk to use funds in the amount of $281,278.44 received from National Grid for the pavement resurfacing project work to be completed by Rosemar Contracting Inc. The roads to be paved are Ackerson Boulevard from Seneca Drive to Wohseepee Drive, Iroquois Drive from Peters Boulevard to Pine Drive, Pine Drive from Iroquis Drive to Mohawk Drive, Mohawk Drive from Pine Drive to Ackerson Boulevard, and Penataquit Drive from Ackerson Boulevard to Pine Drive.

The board voted to hire Rosemar Contracting Inc. to pave Mohawk Drive in the amount of $33,362.32. The board voted to purchase Ariens Zenith Turn Mower from Jack’s Small Engines in the amount of $8,299. The board voted to enter into an agreement with Solitude Lake Management for the treatment of lilies and phragmites at the lakes in the amount of $10,638. The board appointed seasonal employees in the position of lifeguards (both new and returning), gate attendant, summer program director, and counselors (both new and returning). The board voted to reimburse Paul Wernersbach of Sunset 3 Realty in the amount of $2,008 for the purchase of fish balls for the Brightwaters Open event at Gilbert Park on June 11.

The board held a brief discussion regarding employees of businesses, such as landscapers or contractors, parking on residential streets on homeowners’ lawns and blocking their driveway. Mayor John Valdini noted that the board is looking at the issue and possible ways to solve it.

June 30 will be the start of Thursday night music at Walker Beach. July 15 will be the cocktail party at the top of the canal to raise money for the gazebo renovations. Tickets are $60 and tables will be offered for guests who would like to become sponsors.

Valdini said that the village is still looking for a fire marshal and is currently working with the Town of Islip. The former fire marshal retired.

During the Suffolk County Police Department’s report, the officer reminded residents to lock their cars and to avoid keeping their spare key fob in their car.
