Blessing Boxes for ECLI-VIBES

ECLI-VIBES, one of Long Island’s most prominent nonprofit organizations supporting victims of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault, and human trafficking, hosted its fourth annual Spectacular Thanksgiving event this past Saturday, Nov. 23.

From 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., 200 families were invited to receive a Blessing Box, which included essential Thanksgiving items and a variety of different food options. Families also received a choice of turkey, ham, chicken breast, or a $25 Visa gift card. It was a fun-filled day for all with music, snacks, carnival games, face painting, and a petting zoo.

Co-founder of ECLI and executive director of ECLI-VIBES Jennifer Hernandez shared that the event also served as an opportunity for clients to get to know them better and vice versa.

“You know the point is we have a little time for fun and enjoyment again,” she said. “It gives us an opportunity for them to get to know us a little better and see the other side of the building”.”

At least 30 volunteers, including Theta Phi Beta sorority members, were present.

“They’re coming together and want to give back, and that’s beautiful because we can’t do everything on our own. We are the village that people depend on,” Hernandez said.

Prior to Thanksgiving, they plan to serve meals already prepped by members of the community. At the last minute, they received 70 extra turkeys from the Sheriff’s Department, leaving them with more than enough food for the clients they were serving. “It’s just a blessing. We didn’t expect to have that many donations, and we’re still getting them, so we’re feeding even more people,” Hernandez said, sharing her gratitude. “Part of our goal here is shifting the mindset, so it’s really important for us to provide a really loving community and space for our clients.”

In total, they received approximately 4,000 pounds worth of donations.
