The family for Biz Markie is allowing select media to cover the funeral as he is laid to rest. The Reverend Al Sharpton will deliver the eulogy. Hip-Hop artists, Fat Joe; Papoose; LL Cool J; members of the Juice Crew; and more, are confirmed to attend.

Biz Markie touched the world with his infectious smile, amazing energy, and Hip-Hop hits. Known for his top 40 hit, “Just A Friend” and his recurring role on “Yo Gabba Gabba!”, he brightened every room he was in and every song he was on. Though dates and times have yet to be finalized, officials confirmed a funeral remembrance to be held at the Patchogue Theatre on Monday, August 2. About 500 people are expected to attend.

The renaming of West Avenue to Biz Markie Way will also take place sometime this month.

Biz Markie died on Friday, July 16, 2021, at the age of 57. Biz, also known as Marcel Theo Hall, died after battling complications from diabetes over a year’s time in a Baltimore hospital as his wife, Tara, held his hand. Born in Harlem and raised on Long Island, Biz resided on West Avenue next to what is now Donatina's Pizza Café.
