Jen Gilroy’s graphic and pop influence stood out, with bold color schemes and ravaged landscapes setting the scene for larger-than-life characters. In her faux triptych of Kurt Cobain, the voice of a generation’s expressions is slightly mottled in each rendition, capturing a turbulent frontman.

Loretta Oberheim’s tactical but alarming multidimensional piece intrigues with a neutrally dark palette that embodies chaos and craters. The background of stained parchment is a fitting contrast to the chaotic fruition of form.

Ken Jackson’s superhero-inspired work invites the viewer into a world of powerful but misunderstand beings that are desperate to convey their strengths, but destined to reveal their weaknesses. The tantalizing, thumbprint-like background of the piece is engaging and maddening to the viewer as it aims to hypnotize and destabilize.

After a hiatus in 2020 due to the pandemic, South Bay Arts was able to host the popular Artists on the Lane again this Fourth of July.

With Bellport Lane closed off and filled with dozens of diverse media artists, attendees were able to browse leisurely and enjoy the chillier-than-normal, early summer day.
