Glassy conditions for paddle race

Get Up Stand Up Paddleboard in Bellport hosted their fifth annual Paddle to the Point paddleboard race on Sunday, Aug. 18. The race kicked off at 8 a.m., with approximately 40 paddlers competing in a two-mile race to South Howells Point as well as a 200-yard youth race. The race took off from the Bellport Dock in near-ideal glassy conditions. The Bellport Fire Department supplied a safety boat and all the proceeds went directly to the South Country Education Foundation.

The top overall winner was John O’Brien of East Moriches. Other top category placers were: Eric Schwinn, Bellport; Sarah Rauch, Bellport; Patty Miller, Brookhaven hamlet and Logan Baxter, Bellport — the first-place youth race winner.
