Free back to school supplies in Patchogue
Angels of Long Island is hosting a back-to-school supplies drive at their East Patchogue location on Saturday, Aug. 31 from 12-4 p.m. The nonprofit will hand out supplies and clothing to kids from across the island who visit at their annual event.
Last year, Angels of Long Island served almost 500 children, and this year, founder Debbie Loesch expects even more. Each child receives a week’s worth of donated clothing, with shoes, socks and underwear. They also get packs filled with snacks, juice, etc. and on the way out, they’ll get a free backpack filled with school supplies.
The event will be in the parking lot outside the nonprofit’s headquarters at 350-23 East Main Street. It will feature a bouncy house, deejay, local barbers and hairdressers to give free haircuts, and more. The only requirement is that parents bring their children with them.
Angels of Long Island is still accepting donations, and anything that is leftover after the event will fill the “giving closets” in four school districts across the island, including South Country and Patchogue-Medford. The closets are filled with similar items — school supplies and clothing — that kids in need can take from. The event is also in need of volunteers to help with all aspects. To get involved, call 631-803-6775.
