Hippity, hoppity, Easter’s on its way!
The bigger and wackier, the better.
“We never know what to expect,” said Lu Ann Thompson, Bellport Chamber of Commerce president, referring to the Easter Bonnet Crazy Hat Parade. “Every year people get more and more involved, to the point where even entire families are getting in on it,” she said, explaining that she sees everything from ribbon and eggs to bunny ears adorning hats and bonnets. As for Thompson, she said she will be sporting her usual yellow chicken hat.
The fifth annual event will kick off at noon at the Bellport Fire Department this weekend, Saturday, April 20, and will make its way down Main Street to the village green and gazebo for pictures with the Easter Bunny. The Bellport Fire Department will carry the Easter Bunny in their antique truck. At the gazebo, the Easter Bunny will hand out prize eggs.
Lineup begins at 11:30 a.m. The event is free and open to all ages and pets.
“It’s just a nice way to welcome spring,” added Thompson.
