On Monday, Sept. 11, 2017 Bellport Village was joined by the Bellport Fire Department, South Country Ambulance and VFW Post 8300 to commemorate the nearly 3,000 lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001.

Upcoming 9-11 memorial ceremonies


This weekend, many of our local heroes will be remembering those who served during Sept. 11, 2001, along with the rest of our nation. Here are just a few local remembrances being held, all of which are free and open to the public.


The Bellport Fire Department will be hosting their annual 9/11 service in honor of those who were lost. The event will be held at 7 p.m. at the Bellport Dock, in front of the memorial featuring a piece of steel from the towers that is bent and mangled and preserved by the village.


The Brookhaven Fire Department will be holding a ceremony at 7 p.m. at the firehouse.

East Patchogue 

The Hagerman Fire Department will hold their service at 7 p.m. near the memorial outside the firehouse.


The Veterans Organization of Patchogue including Patchogue American Legion Post 269, VFW Post 2913 and AmVets Post 111 will be attending and helping host the village’s first annual 9/11 memorial service to be held at the new 9/11 Memorial Park on Cedar Avenue at 11 a.m.

The Patchogue Fire Department will be hosting its annual 9/11 service outside the firehouse located on Jennings Avenue. The service will take place with a prayer at 6:30 p.m. in front of the 9/11 memorial featuring a piece of steel from the World Trade Center and inscriptions to Lt. Michael K. Healey, Alfred R. Maler and Eric A. Stahlman, Patchogue residents who were lost that day.


The Medford Fire Department will be holding a ceremony at 7 p.m. at the Medford Firemen’s Park across the street from the firehouse.

The Medford Volunteer Gardeners and St. Sylvester’s Knights of Columbus welcome all to remember at about 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the Medford Rail Road Station’s  9/11 Memorial (just east of Route 112, near Oregon/R.R. avenues, opposite Medford’s JR’s restaurant). The yearly service will be presented by Medford’s St. Sylvester’s Knights.
