The Bellport Fire Department is celebrating its 125th year with a parade and party in Bellport. On Aug. 25, the department — and 18 others who will join them — will lead a parade down from Kreamer Street along Bellport Lane, ending at the Bellport Marina. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. and last approximately one hour.

According to chief Kieran Murphy, the department wants to give back to the town after 125 years of service. “The community has been helping us for years,” he said. “In celebration of it, we want to bring the community down [to celebrate].”

Murphy is expecting a large group to be in the village for the celebration. He’s thankful for the village’s help in setting up the event and planning the festivities. The parade will include fire departments and the South Country Ambulance Co., exclusively.

Public parking for the event will be at Bellport Middle School on Kreamer Street. South Country Road will be closed from Academy Lane to New Jersey Avenue, and traffic will be detoured through North Howells Point and Head of the Neck roads, and New Jersey Avenue. No-parking areas will be on Shore Road and Pearl Street.

Food and drinks, including hot dogs, hamburgers, soda and water, will be available for free to the public. There will also be live music and public restrooms available.
