Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center (BMHMC) has announced the launch of Moments Under Construction, a $2.5 million capital campaign to fund renovations to the Main Lobby and entrance of the Hospital, a project designed to give patients and visitors a welcoming and comfortable experience. Spearheaded by a generous donation from Walter and RoseMarie Ladick, the Lobby will be named in honor of the Ladick’s and in memory of Mrs. Ladick’s late parents and late brother, Foster B. and Rose Aviano and Foster M. Aviano.

The project recently broke ground and construction will be conducted in stages, ensuring minimum disruption to the public’s access to hospital services. All patients and visitors are being directed to the North parking lot and will enter the hospital through the Knapp Cardiac Care Center entrance.

“We are grateful to the Ladick’s for the lead gift that has enabled us to get this project underway,” said BMHMC President and CEO Richard T. Margulis. Joined by others from our community, including generous donations from an anonymous foundation and the Swezey Fuel Company, along with John and Toni Sullivan, Tom and Kathy Cullen, and Felix and Madeline Grucci, the importance and endorsement of the project is exceptional, with $1.3 Million committed to date. “More than just an entrance, the Walter and RoseMarie Ladick Lobby will be a gateway to the patient experience and a reflection of the high quality of care and state-of-the-art medical solutions available at Brookhaven.” said Mr. Margulis. It is designed to make all who enter feel welcome by putting patients, family members and other visitors at ease.

According to the Campaign’s leadership – Mark S. Mulholland, Chairman of the BMHMC Board of Directors, and Thomas Cullen, BMHMC Development and Capital Campaign Chairman – impetus for the renovation is directly aligned to Brookhaven’s mission to provide quality, patient-centered care.

Also guiding the Moments Under Construction Lobby Campaign is Vice President and Chief Development Officer Rachel E. Schnabl. “The warmth of our community hospital will resonate throughout this new space thanks to the generosity of our donors who helped launch this campaign. Ms. Schnabl added, “The setting will provide patients, family members, visitors and employees with an area to gather that is welcoming and matches the level of compassionate care provided by our healthcare professionals. These are the meaningful moments we are truly building toward.”

Earlier this year, BMHMC completed a $60 million capital campaign for the 2017 opening of the 60,000 square foot, state-of-the-art, Knapp Cardiac Care Center, providing advanced interventional cardiac care capabilities and four new operating suites. BMHMC also acquired the former John J. Foley Nursing Rehabilitation Center from the County of Suffolk. This purchase will allow BMHMC to take a significant step forward in furthering their mission to serve the community with the care and services reflective of the community’s diverse needs.
