Tune in on Facebook Live at 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve

Considering the crowd associated with the Midnight on Main Street New Year’s Eve celebration, there is no way for the physical event to occur due to the restrictions on social gatherings caused by COVID-19. But surely the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce will produce a virtual event this year, on Facebook Live at 9 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 31.

With COVID-19 came an economic downturn, and small businesses have faced and continue to face the brunt of it. Video messages from chamber members will be featured in the event’s footage at no cost to the businesses.

“We are looking for positive messages that recognize the difficult year we have gone through while expressing hope for the new year,” said David Kennedy, executive director of the chamber. “We encourage any personal story or lesson learned through this that makes you stronger moving forward.”

Kennedy said that if more footage is sent from chamber members than they can use during the event, it will still be featured in the chamber’s ongoing “Patchogue is Open” campaign early in the new year. All footage of this kind needed to be sent in before Monday, Dec. 28.

The chamber has also been compiling and assembling footage from previous Midnight on Main Street events for its virtual presentation on Thursday night.

Be sure to tune in on Facebook Live at 9 p.m. for the annual event.
