PATCHOGUE VILLAGE

Lake Street /West Avenue traffic circle to open

Posted

You can maneuver County Road 19 easier now that the Lake Street/West Avenue traffic circle is opening. And there are two recreation areas, a beautiful park with a walking/running trail and one closer to the lake to sit and ponder or fish.

It’s opening the end of this week.

“We started work about 10 months ago,” said Legis. Rob Calarco (D-Patchogue). “The project was expected to take a year so we’re ahead of schedule.”

The $5.5 million project facilitates vehicles heading west on Lake Street to maneuver south easier.

“That’s important for the Patchogue Fire Department to get to Main Street,” he added.

The county road runs between the lake, Blue Point Brewery, the Patchogue Family Y and Waverly Avenue. “The other thing we did was to condense the roadway from two lanes in each direction separated by a green median and we created a lakefront park area. Many years ago before there was a fence and no sidewalk. We took the fence down and opened it up to a nice green area to do some fishing as opposed to unacceptable concrete.

Calarco said work was also done to enable a sewer line from St. Joseph’s College.

“So we installed their line and the village replaced their own mains that they needed to do,” he said.

The roadway would be opening the end of the week. “They were putting on the last pavement markings on.,” he said.
