Ho Hum Beach expects late-June opening

Posted

Bellport village has set a late-June opening for Ho Hum Beach, a delay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The opening is scheduled for the weekend of June 27-28, and reopening full-time on July 1.

The opening would be contingent on social distancing guidelines from the state, which right now require beaches to reopen at 50 percent capacity, and the same goes for the ferry. At the beach, this would mean about 150 people allowed between the two flags that mark the beach. For the ferry, it would be about 14-20 people per trip, according to village trustee Mike Ferrigno, who described the circumstances at a special meeting of the board of trustees last week.

There will be signage posted at the beach until it opens, indicating that the public area is closed until further notice.
