2020 fire commissioner elections are next week

Fire districts across Long Island will hold their annual elections on Tuesday, Dec. 8. 

Blue Point

The only announced candidate is Walter E. Dunn III, running for reelection to a five-year term. Dunn has served several five-year terms as a fire commissioner and is a lifetime resident of Blue Point. He has served as a member of the Blue Point Fire Department since 1988, including two years as chief of department. The Town of Brookhaven employs him as a senior fire marshal. There are no resolutions or propositions on the ballot. The vote will take place from 6-9 p.m. at the firehouse.

Bellport

The district’s current chairman David Sponton will be running for another term unopposed. There will be no referendums or resolutions on the ballot. Community members can cast their vote between 6-9 p.m. at the firehouse on South Country Road.

Brookhaven 

Challenging firefighter Pete DiPinto will be running against incumbent Richard Bressler for one five-year seat. Voting will take place between 6-9 p.m. at the firehouse on Montauk Highway.

Hagerman

Longtime firefighters Dane Hartmann and Mike McKasty will be vying for Tom Bilka’s vacated seat. Hartmann is a former member and ex-chief of the Bellport Fire Department. McKasty has over 40 years of volunteer experience and is a former FDNY member. There will be no resolutions or referendums and voting will take place from 6-9 p.m. at the firehouse.

Medford

Assemblyman and longtime member of the Medford Fire Department Joe DeStefano will be seeking reelection running unopposed. There will also be no referendums or resolutions on the ballot.

Patchogue

Ryan Murphy will be running for reelection to another five-year term unopposed. There are no resolutions or referendums. The vote will take place at the firehouse on Jennings Avenue between 3-9 p.m. with no referendums or resolutions up for vote.

Mastic

Incumbent Mike Malone is seeking reelection and is running unopposed. There will be no referendums or resolutions.

Mastic Beach

Incumbent Mike Montella will also be running unopposed. Voting will take place from noon to 9 p.m. at the firehouse, with no referendums or resolutions on the ballot.
